The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) announced supervisory relief for institutions it supervises to support recovery on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota following severe storms, straight-line winds and flooding from June 2 to June 4, 2026. The measures support prudent lending adjustments and community recovery financing, while providing flexibility on reporting, publishing requirements and temporary banking facilities. Prudent changes to existing loans will not attract supervisory criticism. Banks are encouraged to extend repayment terms, restructure existing loans or ease terms for new lending where consistent with sound banking practices. Community development loans, investments and services that revitalize or stabilize federally designated disaster areas may receive Community Reinvestment Act consideration when those areas fall within a bank's assessment areas or the states or regions containing them. Institutions expecting delays in filing Reports of Income and Condition or other reports should notify the Kansas City Regional Office. Circumstances beyond an institution's control will be considered when determining an acceptable delay. Relief from publishing and other requirements for branch closings, relocations and temporary facilities will also be considered where the disaster causes compliance difficulties. Requests for temporary banking facilities will be expedited for affected institutions whose offices were damaged or that seek to make services more conveniently available.
