The Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM) has reiterated precautions for retail investors ahead of its participation in the Investors’ Fair in Amsterdam on Nov. 13, part of Investor Week 2026. The advice centers on understanding investments, checking providers’ authorization and scrutinizing online investment content before committing funds. Consumers should invest for the long term, use only money they do not need immediately and avoid simply following others. Investment information can be checked through the AFM’s register of approved prospectuses, while its registers for individual sectors identify providers authorized to offer investment services. The European Securities and Markets Authority’s register provides information on foreign European providers. Investors should also consult regulatory warnings, including the International Organization of Securities Commissions’ warning list, particularly when considering providers outside Europe. The AFM recorded a sharp increase in questions and reports about financial influencers and online investment content in summer 2026. Such content can lead to misinformation, poor investments or fraud. Its previously published material on identifying warning signs encourages closer scrutiny of online content. At the fair, the regulator will offer practical investment tips and participate in a panel on trust, regulation and the realities of the crypto market.
