Egypt’s Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA) hosted a delegation from Oman’s Financial Services Authority for technical discussions on derivatives, preparations for short selling and electronic trading surveillance. The visit, conducted over two days under an existing memorandum of understanding, reviewed regulatory and operational developments in both markets. Egypt’s short selling preparations follow the FRA’s recent issuance of a model borrower contract and training for brokerage staff ahead of launch. The short selling sessions examined the framework established by FRA Board Decision No. 155 of 2026, including operational requirements and the technological connections needed between market participants for execution and settlement. Discussions also addressed how futures contracts allow investors to hedge price volatility and manage risk. On supervision, the exchange focused on using technology and data analysis to identify unusual trading patterns and potential violations. A separate session examined oversight of auditors and audit firms, including controls over professional performance and coordination with relevant professional bodies.
