The Central Bank of Paraguay (BCP) has initiated resolution proceedings for ueno bank following a unanimous board decision on Nov. 2, 2026. The bank’s solvency ratio fell below 50% of the required minimum following adjustments to its financial statements during a regularization process. The BCP characterized the case as specific to the institution rather than indicative of a broader problem in Paraguay’s financial system. Deposits are guaranteed up to PYG 228,300,000, equivalent to 75 monthly minimum wages, per individual or legal entity at each financial institution. Coverage applies per depositor and institution, not per account. Statutory mechanisms will also be used to seek the greatest possible protection for balances exceeding the Deposit Guarantee Fund’s coverage. The Superintendency of Banks will appoint administrators to verify the bank’s financial position as of the resolution date. Their priorities will be to preserve its assets and carry out the resolution process within their legal powers. The BCP will also investigate responsibility within its remit and, where appropriate, impose sanctions and notify the competent authorities.
