The National Bank of Moldova reported that Governor Anca Dragu met Bulgarian National Bank Governor Dimitar Radev in Sofia to discuss cooperation on aligning Moldova’s financial system with European Union standards. The meeting, held during Dragu’s participation in an Official Monetary and Financial Institutions Forum event, examined Bulgaria’s European integration experience, including its adoption of the euro on Jan. 1, 2026. Bulgaria’s integration into the Eurosystem provided practical reference points for modernizing financial infrastructure and connecting to European payment systems. Dragu reviewed Moldova’s progress in aligning regulation and supervision with EU law. The discussions covered the European Banking Authority’s assessment of the equivalence of Moldova’s banking prudential and supervisory framework with EU standards. Equivalence recognition, already the subject of discussions with the authority, would facilitate cooperation on banking supervision across borders. On payments, Dragu revisited Moldova’s participation in the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) and development of the MIA instant payment system, highlighting their contribution to reducing costs and simplifying transfers for households and businesses.
