South Korea’s Ministry of Economy and Finance reported an agreement with Bangladesh to identify cooperation projects in artificial intelligence and other digital technologies, supply chains and green sectors. Second Vice Minister Heo Jang and Bangladesh Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury reached the understanding at a Nov. 3 meeting in Seoul. Projects would draw on the Economic Development Cooperation Fund and Economic Innovation Partnership Program to address Bangladesh’s development needs while enabling Korean companies to participate. The discussions followed the conclusion in principle of the bilateral Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement in August. Heo called for the follow-up measures needed for its early entry into force and proposed diversifying bilateral trade and expanding cooperation into infrastructure, defense and advanced industries. Heo also requested improvements to customs procedures, visa renewals and regulations affecting Korean companies operating in Bangladesh. Chowdhury pledged support to address business difficulties and facilitate greater participation and investment by Korean companies.
