The Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo reported on final preparations for Kosovo’s Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) application during Governor Ahmet Ismaili’s working meeting with Prime Minister Albin Kurti. Discussions focused on progress in meeting the relevant criteria and the steps remaining before formal submission to the European Payments Council (EPC). Ismaili highlighted previously approved amendments to legislation on preventing money laundering and combating terrorist financing, which the bank had earlier identified as fulfilling a key legislative condition for advancing the application. The meeting also reviewed progress in developing the TIPS Clone instant payment system. The project, alongside SEPA integration, is intended to improve payment efficiency and reduce transaction costs for individuals and businesses. Broader discussions addressed legislative and regulatory reforms to strengthen financial supervision and align Kosovo’s framework with European Union legislation, including reforms linked to its commitments under the EU Growth Plan for the Western Balkans.
