The Bank of Uganda has published frequently asked questions clarifying a planned shutdown of its Real-Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) and Automated Clearing House (ACH) services for a system upgrade. The closure will run from 5 p.m. on November 5, 2026, to 9 a.m. on November 9, 2026. High value payments and other transactions that depend on either system will not be processed during that period. Mobile money, ATM services, transactions at bank counters and transfers between accounts at the same bank will be unaffected. Availability of other payment services must be confirmed with the relevant providers. Customers should identify urgent payments and process them before the closure where possible, checking processing deadlines and suitable alternatives with their financial institutions. Arrangements for pending or unsettled transactions remain subject to operational confirmation and will be communicated to RTGS participants once finalized. Customers should seek guidance on individual transactions from their financial institutions. An official restoration notice will follow confirmation by the responsible technical and operational teams that services are available.
