The National Bank of Serbia has warned citizens and customers of Alta banka a.d. Beograd, which is in bankruptcy, and Alta Group d.o.o. Beograd not to make loan repayments in response to suspicious text messages or emails. Citizens reported receiving texts bearing the sender ID “AltaPay” or coming from unknown phone numbers, directing payments to specified accounts at Banka Poštanska štedionica. Alta banka borrowers should wait for repayment instructions exclusively from the Deposit Insurance Agency, which has taken over management of the bank. The agency will specify the bank and account number for future repayments. The central bank notified Banka Poštanska štedionica about an account cited in one of the reported messages so that it could take appropriate measures. It also requested increased monitoring of suspicious incoming transactions.
