Paraguay’s Superintendency of Securities outlined mutual fund safeguards and explained temporary pauses affecting some funds during the resolution of ueno bank S.A. The pauses ensure equal treatment for investors while the funds’ investments in the bank are valued. Other investments held by those funds were unaffected, and a return to normal operations is progressing fund by fund. Mutual fund assets belong to investors and are legally separate from those of the fund manager and the companies or banks in which the fund invests. Neither the manager nor its creditors can access those assets. Each fund must follow investment rules registered with the Superintendency that limit concentration in a single issuer or corporate group. This diversification limits exposure to an affected issuer to the portion invested in it, rather than the entire fund. Ongoing supervision checks asset segregation and compliance with investment and liquidity limits. Funds must calculate unit values daily, provide information to investors and undergo external audits. They must also avoid transactions involving conflicts of interest with their managers.
