The Central Bank of Brazil approved three rules tightening credit marketing, expanding information available before borrowing and introducing safeguards for credit offered during Pix transactions. From March 31, 2027, institutions must provide a clear mechanism for customers to block advertisements and proactive credit offers. Offers to customers with greater financial vulnerability or at risk of excessive debt will require prior, specific and unequivocal authorization. They must also aim to improve the customer’s financial position, such as through renegotiation or transfers to more advantageous products, without providing new funds. Customers may still seek and contract credit themselves. A consolidated debt dashboard will display customers’ financial obligations, cost simulations and risk alerts. Before contracting credit, customers will receive simulations showing installments, the share of monthly repayment capacity committed and the capacity remaining after the transaction. Automatic alerts will flag risks, including when commitments reach 40% of monthly repayment capacity. Initially, the dashboard will cover operations held with the institution. Credit Information System (SCR) and Open Finance data will be incorporated later, subject to applicable rules. Most dashboard provisions take effect July 1, 2027. For credit offered during the initiation of Pix transactions, institutions must obtain prior, specific user consent and allow at least 24 hours between activation and the first offer. They must also provide a credit simulator and access to information on contracted operations. These rules take effect July 1, 2027. Further requirements on information and financial education will be detailed in an updated Pix user experience manual to be published by the end of 2026. Recipients will continue to receive Pix transfers instantly and in full.
