South Korea’s Financial Services Commission (FSC) has extended the special response period for preventing voice phishing and text message scams linked to financial sector data breaches through the end of December 2026, following confirmation of additional breaches. No customer fund losses from such scams linked to the recent breaches have been reported. The existing consumer alert remains at the “caution” level. Financial firms will continue existing safeguards, which include dedicated support channels for affected customers and enhanced suspicious transaction monitoring, with immediate identity checks on large transfers by affected customers. Other measures include sharing suspicious transaction information and arrangements for promptly handling requests for redress and reporting losses to supervisors. Firms with newly confirmed breaches will apply preventive measures based on the type and scope of information exposed. Financial authorities will check implementation at individual firms and respond to signs of fraud.
