Thailand’s Office of Insurance Commission (OIC) announced a cooperation initiative with Google aimed at preventing and suppressing cyber-enabled insurance fraud that harms consumers. Following a meeting at Google Thailand, the OIC sought Google’s support in its role as operator of a search engine and the Google Play Store to develop approaches to address insurance-related misconduct, including fake insurance applications and unlicensed foreign insurers marketing products online outside the OIC’s supervisory perimeter. The OIC highlighted that such activity can make it difficult to identify perpetrators and pursue legal action. The OIC and Google plan to continue coordinating on technology-related risk prevention and future insurance fraud prevention efforts.
