The Central Bank of the Solomon Islands has launched a limited edition SBD 50 commemorative banknote to mark its 50th Golden Jubilee. The note has been declared legal tender and is now available to the public through commercial banks and ATMs nationwide. The commemorative note keeps the familiar size, green color palette and core artistic patterns of the existing circulating SBD 50 paper note, but shifts to a polymer substrate and adds updated security features. Its front includes a transparent window with the head of an eagle and the text "CBSI 50" above the CBSI Bokolo logo, while the reverse depicts the Central Bank building and the historical evolution of currency in the Solomon Islands from shell money to digital payments. Produced in limited quantities, the note is also intended as a collector item, and the central bank plans to issue public educational materials on its security features through its website and outreach programs.
