The National Bank of Belgium published a market notice reporting that the Markets Court has set aside a Financial Services and Markets Authority decision imposing a EUR 300,000 administrative fine for allegedly delayed disclosure of inside information. The court held that the regulator had failed to demonstrate any infringement of the Market Abuse Regulation or Implementing Regulation (EU) 2016/1055. The dispute concerned a September 2022 press release on how monetary policy tightening could affect the central bank’s future earnings and dividend outlook. The Financial Services and Markets Authority’s Sanctions Committee had classified the release as inside information disclosed nine calendar days late. Trading in the National Bank of Belgium’s shares on Euronext Brussels was suspended on Sept. 2 at the regulator’s initiative pending publication of the court outcome.
