The Uruguay Ministry of Economy and Finance reported that its Consumer Protection Unit convened the first Regional Dialogue on Financial Consumer Protection, bringing together central banks, public and private banks, and consumer protection authorities from Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay. The discussions focused on the growth of financial fraud and overindebtedness among certain population groups, including preventive and corrective strategies. The event formed part of Uruguay’s temporary presidency of Mercosur Technical Committee No. 7 on Consumer Protection. Based on the dialogue’s outcomes, the committee added the promotion of similar future forums to its work plan to support the adoption of regional best practices.
