Spain's Ministry of Finance announced that the Council of Ministers approved a multi-year contract programme for Correos, setting the conditions under which the state-owned postal operator will provide services of general economic interest through 2030. The measure implements the amendment to Postal Law 43/2010 approved by Congress in July 2025, which recognizes Correos as the General State Administration's instrument for delivering public-interest services that would not be provided by the market without state intervention. The contract covers four main areas: access to postal communications through Correos' office network and other service points in rural areas, access to basic financial services, universal access to the General State Administration, and the provision of personnel and material resources required in security or emergency situations. It also broadens Correos' role as a one-stop access point for the General State Administration, with its offices due to offer the purchase of public debt and access to a digital certificate.
