Payments Canada has published a recap of The 2026 Payments Canada SUMMIT, where more than 2,300 delegates from over 320 organizations across the payments ecosystem met over two and a half days to discuss the future of payments in Canada. Topics covered included real-time payments, artificial intelligence, cross-border payments, open banking, digital assets and fraud. In the closing session, President and Chief Executive Officer Susan Hawkins and the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Finance and National Revenue, described secure and efficient innovation in payments as a shared industry responsibility in the context of Canada’s competitiveness. The recap highlights several announcements made during the event, including Neo Financial joining Payments Canada as a new payment service provider member. It also points to Visa launching an "agentic ready" program and selecting Wealthsimple for a stablecoin pilot, and to a partnership between Visa Canada and RemitBee focused on simplifying cross-border payments. The programme concluded with six deep-dive sessions covering real-time payments, payment transformation, open banking, digital assets, artificial intelligence, and fraud prevention and mitigation. Payments Canada said the 2027 Payments Canada SUMMIT will be held from May 4 to 6 at Toronto’s Automotive Building.
