The Egypt Financial Regulatory Authority reported that Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly has appointed Dr Islam Abdel Azim Azzam as chair of the board of the Egyptian Exchange for a one-year term. Azzam most recently served as vice chair of the Financial Regulatory Authority from January 2021 to August 2025, overseeing capital market, insurance and non-banking financial services. His prior roles include advisory and senior positions in Egypt’s mortgage finance and capital markets authorities, managing director of the SME investment fund “Bidaya”, and adviser to the Minister of Investment, alongside academic appointments in finance at the American University in Cairo and other institutions. He also holds board and trustee roles including in Egypt’s anti-money laundering and terrorism financing unit, the Egyptian Arab Land Bank (as chair of the risk committee), and the Egyptian Center for Voluntary Arbitration and Settlement of Non-Banking Financial Disputes.
