The Central Bank of Taiwan reported that net trading volume in the Taipei foreign exchange market reached USD 1.0444 trillion in August 2026 after eliminating double counting from interbank transactions. Average daily turnover was USD 49.7 billion. Interbank transactions accounted for 64.3% of volume, including 42% with foreign banks, while bank transactions with customers represented 35.7%. New Taiwan dollar currency pairs generated 55% of turnover, led by New Taiwan dollar to U.S. dollar trading at USD 557.7 billion. Foreign exchange swaps accounted for 50.3% of total activity and spot transactions for 44%. Direct dealing represented 59.1% of trading, compared with 40.9% conducted through brokers. Banks also recorded USD 10.9 billion in interest rate swaps and USD 1.9 billion in interest rate options.
