The National Bank of Moldova announced that Governor Anca Dragu held bilateral talks in Brussels with Gert Jan Koopman, Director-General of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Enlargement and the Eastern Neighbourhood. The meeting focused on intensifying cooperation in Moldova’s European integration process, with particular attention to the central bank’s role in aligning the regulatory framework with European Union standards, access to DG ENEST technical assistance, and strengthening central bank independence. The discussion also covered cooperation with the European Commission on Moldova’s accession process and participation in the Single Euro Payments Area, which the governor described as having direct economic effects for citizens, businesses and the national economy. Additional issues included the assessment of equivalence between Moldova’s banking prudential framework and the European Union’s framework in line with the European Banking Authority methodology. The meeting took place during a visit by a delegation from Chisinau to the EU’s annual economic and financial dialogue with regional partners and EU candidate countries in Brussels.
