By counterparty, transactions between banks and customers totalled USD 685.2 billion (71.9%), including USD 180.9 billion (19.0%) with domestic banks and USD 504.3 billion (52.9%) with foreign banks, while interbank transactions were USD 268.1 billion (28.1%). By currency, New Taiwan dollar (NTD)/foreign currency trades were USD 391.3 billion (41.0%), dominated by NTD/USD at USD 374.3 billion (39.3%), while third-currency trades were USD 562.0 billion (59.0%), led by USD/RMB at USD 124.0 billion (13.0), USD/JPY at USD 95.2 billion (10.0), and EUR/USD at USD 94.8 billion (9.9%). By transaction type, foreign exchange swaps accounted for USD 486.3 billion (51.0%), spot transactions USD 380.4 billion (39.9%), outright forwards USD 62.8 billion (6.6%), and options USD 21.9 billion (2.3%). Direct dealing totalled USD 623.5 billion (65.4%) versus USD 329.8 billion (34.6%) through brokers. The release also reported bank turnover in interest rate derivatives of USD 6.3 billion in interest rate swaps and USD 0.5 billion in interest rate options.
