The European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA) and the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen cooperation on evidence-based research into natural catastrophe risks. The agreement is intended to support better understanding and management of catastrophe risks by enabling the exchange of data, expertise and best practices, with a view to improving assessment of the impacts of natural disasters on the insurance sector and the wider economy. The cooperation focuses in particular on enhancing risk assessment methodologies and improving the collection and analysis of disaster loss data.
