The Tanzania Insurance Regulatory Authority (TIRA) has set out plans to address insurance-related challenges affecting residents in Tanzania’s Tanga region, with an emphasis on strengthening supervision of health insurance. The focus is on oversight of health insurance products and the services provided to all enrollees to ensure they align with the requirements of the universal health insurance law. The update was delivered by Dr Emmanuel C. Lupilya, TIRA’s Northern Zone Manager for Arusha, Kilimanjaro and Tanga, during a presentation to the Tanga Regional Consultative Committee meeting on 31 December, which reviewed development progress and service delivery challenges, and included a call for citizens to enrol in the health insurance system; TIRA said it would ensure emerging issues are resolved quickly.
