The Central Bank of Iceland announced that Prime Minister Kristrún Frostadóttir has appointed Thórarinn G. Pétursson to serve as Deputy Governor for Monetary Policy for a five-year term, effective 15 January 2025. Pétursson has worked at the Central Bank of Iceland since 1994 and has been Chief Economist and Director of the Economics and Monetary Policy Department since 2009. He previously served on the Bank’s Monetary Policy Committee from 2009 to 2019 and has held senior research and forecasting roles, including editing the Bank’s Monetary Bulletin. His academic background includes degrees from the University of Iceland and the University of Essex, and a PhD from Aarhus University.
