At the International Monetary Fund Annual Meetings in Bangkok, Chancellor of the Exchequer John Healey outlined the UK’s priorities for international economic cooperation as conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine raise energy prices, government borrowing costs and inflation. The agenda centers on supporting growth, managing the economic effects of artificial intelligence, strengthening resilience to shocks and mobilizing finance for emerging and developing economies facing debt liquidity pressures. Healey said the UK would seek to identify barriers to AI adoption while managing associated risks. Under its 2027 G20 presidency, the UK plans to use the Finance Track to examine AI’s implications for growth and employment, maintain trade flows, strengthen economic resilience and support developing economies. Detailed presidency priorities are due in early 2027, with G20 finance ministers and central bank governors scheduled to meet in Edinburgh on July 8 and 9, 2027.
