The National Bank of Moldova published its monthly statistics on the domestic cash foreign exchange market for April 2025, covering cash exchange units’ purchases and sales of foreign currency against the Moldovan leu with individuals. Total turnover was EUR 400.2 million equivalent, comprising EUR 324.2 million of purchases and EUR 76.0 million of sales. The euro dominated activity with EUR 308.3 million of turnover (EUR 254.9 million purchases and EUR 53.4 million sales), representing 77.0% of total turnover. US dollar transactions totalled EUR 55.9 million (14.0% of total), while other currencies accounted for smaller amounts including Romanian leu at EUR 8.5 million and Russian ruble at EUR 2.0 million. Compared with the previous month, total turnover rose 14.0% as purchases increased 20.6% while sales fell 7.5%; versus the same month a year earlier, total turnover increased 19.2% with purchases up 30.2% and sales down 12.3%. The central bank noted that euro equivalents are calculated using monthly average official exchange rates, and that the cash foreign exchange market information is published monthly by the last day of the month following the reporting period.
