The Egypt Financial Regulatory Authority discussed a draft roadmap for phased adoption of the IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards across the non-banking financial sector. Building on Egypt’s existing environmental, social and governance and climate-related disclosure framework, the proposal would begin with simplified climate disclosures, progress to initial IFRS implementation and culminate in full application. A later phase would add disclosures aligned with Global Reporting Initiative standards to address impacts and double materiality more broadly. The phased approach reflects differing levels of readiness in governance, data quality, internal systems, technical skills and assurance capabilities. An assessment of current reporting identified gaps in disclosure quality and depth, institutional structures, expertise and resources, as well as weak links between sustainability objectives, data and measurable performance. The roadmap therefore includes capacity building, technical guidance, digital tools and data support before each phase becomes mandatory. It remains under discussion and review pending completion of approval procedures.
