The Ontario Securities Commission has introduced an OSC LaunchPad Long-Term Asset Fund Project to help bring to market new investment fund products that provide retail investors with exposure to long-term assets. The initiative will consider novel exemptive relief requests to enable alternative fund structures, alongside tailored investor protection controls designed around each fund’s specific features. The project responds to stakeholder feedback on the OSC’s October 2024 consultation on a proposed long-term asset fund product structure, including the concept of an Ontario Long-Term Asset Fund, intended to broaden retail access to assets such as venture capital, private debt and equity, and infrastructure and natural resource projects. It will be delivered through collaboration between the OSC’s Investment Management Division and its Office of Economic Growth and Innovation, and the OSC is inviting stakeholders to engage on potential product structures and the exemptive relief that may be needed to launch them.
