The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and other federal bank regulatory agencies released the 2026 list of distressed or underserved nonmetropolitan middle-income geographies where certain bank activities can receive Community Reinvestment Act consideration. The update identifies the areas in which revitalization or stabilization activities qualify for CRA credit under the community development definition. The designations are based on local economic conditions, including unemployment, poverty and population changes. CRA eligibility for revitalization or stabilization activities in the geographies on the 2026 list runs for 12 months after publication of the current list. Areas that appeared on the 2025 list but are no longer designated in 2026 remain subject to a one-year lag period, consistent with past practice.
