The People’s Bank of China hosted the 20th Asia-Pacific High-Level Meeting on Banking Supervision of the Organization of Central Bank Governors in East Asia and the Pacific (EMEAP) in Tianjin, with Governor Pan Gongsheng delivering a keynote speech and Vice Governor Lu Lei attending. In his remarks, Pan highlighted cross-institutional, cross-market and cross-sector risks as the main risks facing the financial industry, and called for continued strengthening of macroprudential regulatory frameworks alongside micro-supervision. He pointed to China’s recent work to expand its macroprudential policy toolkit, enhance supervision of systemically important financial institutions, and explore macroprudential management of financial markets, and urged EMEAP members to implement agreed international financial regulatory rules and coordinate on international financial governance issues to build regional synergies. Pan also met Nepal Rastra Bank Governor Bisvo Bowdell to exchange views on China–Nepal financial cooperation.
