The Securities and Exchange Board of India has launched the Document Number Verification System (SEBI-DNVS) to enable recipients to verify whether physical communications were issued by SEBI. Under the system, letters, notices, show-cause notices and summons issued by SEBI will carry a unique Outward Number. Verification requires one-time password authentication on the recipient’s mobile number (or a person acting on their behalf) and entry of the Outward Number along with details such as the sender’s name, communication date and recipient name. The verification process confirms issuance of the communication but does not verify its contents. SEBI-DNVS is available via the SEBI website’s “Authenticate Document Number Issued by SEBI” page, with a separate guidance note provided.
