The Central Bank of Brunei Darussalam (BDCB) updated its Alert List of persons that are not licensed, authorised or regulated by the central bank, adding Qawenna (also known as Loan Online Brunei Official) and Central Bank of Barnai. BDCB said the Alert List is intended to help the public exercise caution and avoid being misled into believing listed parties are supervised by BDCB, and that inclusion is without prejudice to any further assessment of the activities of the persons concerned. The central bank reiterated that consumers should only deal with BDCB-licensed financial institutions and avoid unlicensed entities offering services such as money remittance, money changing, money lending and pawn broking, noting that dealings with unlicensed parties fall outside BDCB’s regulatory protections. The updated Alert List is available on BDCB’s website, and BDCB said it will continue monitoring suspicious or unlicensed financial activities and encouraged the public to provide information to BDCB or the Anti-Scam Helpline.
