The Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority (SAMA) announced the launch of a new e-commerce payments interface designed to enhance the efficiency of Saudi Arabia’s national payment infrastructure and support the growing e-commerce sector. The interface enables e-commerce service providers to use national infrastructure and integrate the mada payment system with global payment networks through unified, simplified technical specifications, expanding available payment options. The launch also introduces a centralized registration service intended to help banks and financial institutions offer financing solutions to e-commerce businesses, and incorporates payment card tokenization to improve the security of electronic payment transactions. SAMA positioned the initiative within its broader strategy to develop the e-payments ecosystem, support the expansion of online businesses and service providers such as payment gateways and payment technical service providers, and advance digital payments indicators and financial technology strategy objectives.
