Argentina's Ministry of Economy has announced a program to place ARS 2 trillion in fixed-term deposits with financial institutions, with the funds earmarked for mortgages to individuals purchasing, building, expanding or renovating a first home. The peso deposits will be indexed to the Unit of Purchasing Value (UVA) and pay an additional minimum interest rate. Each auction will offer up to ARS 200 billion, with each institution limited to 20% of the auction amount and required to deploy the funds within 90 calendar days. One-year deposits will pay at least UVA plus 2.5%, while five-year deposits will pay at least UVA plus 4.5%. Mortgages funded through the program must have a minimum term of 15 years, carry a rate no higher than UVA plus 7.5% and not exceed 150,000 UVA per loan.
