The Italian Institute for Insurance Supervision (IVASS) ordered the blocking of the website www.preventivi.agenziavirtualedas.com (and preventivi.agenziavirtualedas.com) on the grounds that it is unlawfully offering insurance services. The blocking is being implemented by internet service providers operating in Italy and may take several days for technical reasons. IVASS noted that the total number of abusive websites blocked since it began exercising this power in November 2023 has risen to 349, and warned consumers to be cautious of policy purchase proposals made via instant messaging services (such as WhatsApp or text messages) and of payment requests using prepaid credit cards, as well as websites not included in IVASS’s official lists of supervised insurers and insurance intermediaries.
