The Central Bank of Chile (BCCh) has launched the “Centenario Banco Central” website as part of its 2025 centenary initiatives, offering a citizen-focused digital platform that recounts the institution’s history and places it alongside key economic milestones for Chile and the world. The site presents a timeline spanning 1827 to 2025, beginning with the minting of Chile’s first coin, the Peso Independiente, and concluding with the BCCh’s 100th anniversary. It also frames the Bank’s institutional development across changing political, social and economic contexts, including how this evolution shaped its current identity as an autonomous and technical institution. In addition to the historical content, the platform lists commemorative activities already underway, including the “Historias de Peso” contest and the Financial Education Olympics, and provides a channel for the public to share photographic memories related to coins and banknotes, including through the Bank’s historical conservation building and former regional locations.
