The Central Bank of Paraguay has opened the XXVII Workshop in International Economics and Finance in Paraguay, a joint event with the Ministry of Economy and Finance that brings together international economists and officials from multilateral institutions and regional governments. The opening sessions focused on economic policy issues affecting the region, with the workshop positioned as a forum linking academic analysis with economic policymaking. The first day at the central bank’s convention facilities included two public policy panels, one on tax challenges and another on economic reform agendas in Argentina, Paraguay and the United States. The afternoon program at the BCP Institute shifted to academic research on informality and poverty, followed by a keynote lecture on rethinking Keynesian fiscal stimulus. Supporting institutions include the World Bank, Inter-American Development Bank, CAF, LACEA, the University of Chicago’s Becker-Friedman Institute and Universidad Torcuato Di Tella. The event will continue on May 29 and 30 at the Itaipu venue. The central bank said this is the first time Paraguay has hosted an academic economics event of this scale.
