Payments Canada announced the appointment of Derek Rego as Chief Information Officer (CIO) and the transition of Shawn Van Raay into the role of Chief Technology Operations Officer (CTOO), effective 1 December 2025, as part of changes to its technology operating model supporting modernization of Canada’s national payment infrastructure. As CIO, Rego will lead technology strategy covering enterprise architecture, data, software development, and engineering, and will develop and deliver a technology roadmap focused on modernization and resilience. As CTOO, Van Raay will oversee operational performance, security, and stability for Payments Canada’s systems, including Lynx, the Automated Clearing Settlement System (ACSS), and the forthcoming 24/7/365 Real-Time Rail (RTR). The leadership changes take effect on 1 December 2025.
