The Italian Institute for Insurance Supervision (IVASS) issued a warning after a counterfeit surety bond policy was reported that was made out in the name of Accelerant Insurance Europe S.A./N.V., which has disowned the document. The insurer also reported that the certified email address (PEC) shown on the counterfeit policy, accelerant@legalmail.it, is not attributable to it. IVASS noted that Accelerant Insurance Europe S.A./N.V. is a Belgian insurer supervised by the National Bank of Belgium and authorised to operate in Italy in non-life business, including class 15 (suretyship), since 2 December 2020 under the right of establishment and since 19 July 2022 under freedom to provide services. IVASS recommended that consumers exercise caution when assessing insurance offers and verify, before paying any premium, that quotations and contracts relate to duly authorised insurers and intermediaries by consulting IVASS registers and warning notices on its website.
