The Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority has published a consultation proposing to repeal its mortgage amortisation regulations and related general guidance on the mortgage cap, prompted by proposals in the government’s Council on Legislation referral on the development of the macroprudential policy area. The proposal would revoke Finansinspektionen’s Regulations (FFFS 2016:16) on amortisation of loans secured on housing, its General Guidelines (FFFS 2016:33) on limiting such lending, and its General Guidelines (FFFS 2020:3) on exemptions from amortisation requirements due to special reasons. The repeal is proposed to take effect on 31 March 2026. Written comments are due by 4 February 2026 under reference FI Dnr 25-33519.
