The Portuguese Insurance and Pension Funds Supervisory Authority (ASF) published a draft regulatory standard setting the reference indices used to automatically update sums insured in housing-related property insurance policies that start or renew in the second quarter of 2026, unless the contract stipulates otherwise. For Q2 2026, the draft sets the Building Index (IE) at 583.79, the Household Contents Index (IRH) at 359.38, and the Combined Household Contents and Buildings Index (IRHE) at 494.03, with a base of 100 in the first quarter of 1987. The annex reports changes versus the previous quarter and the same quarter of the prior year: IE rose 1.83% quarter on quarter and 4.46% year on year, IRH increased 0.37% and 7.29%, and IRHE increased 1.40% and 5.27%. ASF also notes that policyholders remain responsible for ensuring the values insured are appropriate, including taking account of regional variation versus national indices and changes to the insured assets. The draft standard has been subject to a public consultation process under ASF’s statutes.
