The UK Parliament House of Lords Financial Services Regulation Committee has launched an inquiry into the regulation of the consumer insurance market, focusing on home and travel insurance. The committee is seeking evidence on whether the current regulatory framework is effective, whether it is properly enforced, and whether regulators or the Government need to change their approach. The inquiry covers insurance distribution, including sales made directly and through intermediaries, as well as claims handling, enforcement of the relevant rules, and the resolution of disputes between insurance firms and consumers. Committee chair Baroness Noakes said the review is intended to assess whether the market is working for consumers who buy home and travel insurance.
