Ecuador's Superintendency of Banks reported on an official visit by Superintendent Roberto Romero von Buchwald to Washington, DC on 15 October 2025 to strengthen international cooperation, including discussions with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) on coordinating support for ongoing supervisory projects. The engagement with the IDB covered initiatives such as optimising risk-based supervision (SBR) through the application of SupTech GenAI (generative artificial intelligence). The authority described this as an evolution of its supervisory approach through methodologies and tools intended to reduce manual processes and limit subjectivity in supervisory exercises. The superintendent also met Ecuador’s representative to the Organization of American States (OAS), Mónica Palencia, to express the Superintendency’s interest in participating in OAS cooperation programmes, and held a separate meeting with Ecuador’s ambassador to the United States, Pablo Zambrano.
