The Tanzania Insurance Regulatory Authority (TIRA) announced it will participate actively in the third Tanzania Women in Finance Conference (WIFC) 2026, organised by the Tanzania Women in Finance Association (TAWiFA) with sector stakeholders. The conference, scheduled for 23 March 2026 in Arusha, will focus on strategies to strengthen financial inclusion, promote inclusive leadership, and support sustainable growth in Tanzania’s financial sector, with TIRA using the platform to reinforce the role of insurance in protecting assets. At a 16 March 2026 press briefing, TAWiFA highlighted persistent barriers for women in accessing formal financial services, particularly credit, alongside improvements in overall financial inclusion from about 16% in 2009 to 76% of adults using financial services, citing FinScope Tanzania 2023. The briefing also cited research indicating women own or run more than 50% of small and medium-sized enterprises in Tanzania, while women-led SMEs contribute around 40% of economic activity across East African countries, yet women hold fewer than 30% of senior decision-making roles in many financial institutions. The event is expected to bring together leaders and professionals from banking, insurance, capital markets, pension and social security funds, fintech, financial sector regulators, policymakers, and development partners at the PSSSF Commercial Complex (Papu Tower) in Arusha.
