The Italian Institute for Insurance Supervision (IVASS) has ordered the cessation of insurance intermediation carried out illegally through five websites and has instructed providers operating in Italy to block access to them. The blocking process is underway and, for technical reasons, may take several days to become fully effective. The sites identified as offering unauthorised insurance services are brambillaebrancati.it (including www), assicomsrl.it (including www), mckinsyandlevi.it, pallini-assicurazioni.com (including www), and annuale.mckinsyandlevi.it. The cessation orders are published in IVASS’s “Defend ourselves from scams” section, and the total number of websites subject to such orders has reached 208 since IVASS began exercising its blocking power in November 2023. IVASS also reiterates guidance for consumers to be cautious with insurance offers made via the internet, telephone, or messaging apps, especially temporary motor third-party liability policies, and to verify before paying premiums that quotes and contracts relate to authorised insurers and intermediaries by consulting IVASS’s online lists, including the Register of Insurance Intermediaries (RUI).
