The Hong Kong Monetary Authority has launched the 2025 Green Fintech Competition, co-hosted with the Hong Kong Institute of Bankers and supported by the Institute of Sustainability and Technology, Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited, the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation, and Invest Hong Kong. The initiative invites green fintech solutions intended to help the banking sector and wider financial industry apply technology to sustainability-related use cases. The competition will assess entries against five themes: sustainable supply chain and small and medium-sized enterprises; accelerating climate risk modelling and analytics; carbon market analytics and technology; sustainable investing; and sustainable banking and financing products. Submissions are open to firms in Hong Kong and internationally, with solutions required to address at least one theme and to be submitted via the competition website by 6 June 2025; a judging panel spanning banking, investment, technology, professional associations and academia will evaluate entries. Winners will be invited to present at the 2025 Green Fintech Symposium on 12 September 2025 as part of 2025 Hong Kong Green Week, and the HKMA noted further opportunities for winners and finalists set out in an annex.
