Securities Commission Malaysia concluded its River Flooding Adaptation & Resilience University Challenge, awarding MYR 57,000 for student-led climate adaptation solutions. The initiative sought practical, scalable and financially viable approaches to flood resilience while highlighting the capital market’s role in directing private finance toward climate adaptation. Around 400 students from 46 universities participated in two tracks. The main track focused on flood mitigation solutions for Taman Sri Muda that also deliver transition benefits, while a second track used social media videos to promote river health in Selangor. Team BDR, comprising students from Universiti Malaya and Monash University Malaysia, won the main competition, and Team Ban Banjir won the social media category. The initiative supports the sustainability pillar of the Capital Market Masterplan 2026–2030, including efforts to strengthen capital market financing for climate transition, adaptation and resilience.
