The Hong Kong Monetary Authority reported that deposits with authorized institutions increased by 0.1% in June, while total loans and advances rose by 1.3%. In the first half of 2026, deposits grew by 4.9% and loans by 6.4%. Hong Kong dollar deposits increased by 0.9% in June, while foreign currency deposits declined by 0.5%. Renminbi deposits fell by 3.6% to RMB 1,093.5 billion, although cross-border trade settlement remittances rose to RMB 1,277.7 billion from RMB 1,129.6 billion in May. Loans for use in Hong Kong, including trade finance, increased by 1.4% in June, while loans for use outside Hong Kong rose by 1.0%. The Hong Kong dollar loan-to-deposit ratio climbed to 71.5% from 71.0% as loans grew faster than deposits. Hong Kong dollar M2 and M3 each rose by 0.8% in June and 2.6% from a year earlier, while total M2 and M3 each increased by 9.2% year over year. The authority cautioned against overgeneralizing monthly movements because the data are affected by transient funding, business and investment-related factors.
