The National Bank of Romania announced that it will conduct the “Financing and consumption of households” statistical survey in collaboration with the National Institute of Statistics, joining for the first time the European Union national central banks participating in the European Central Bank-coordinated triannual household survey. The survey aims to collect data on households’ financial situation, income and consumption to support monetary policy analysis and the identification of financial stability risks. Data collection begins in April 2026 and will cover a sample of around 12,300 households selected from 1,309 localities across all counties, using a sampling frame provided by the National Institute of Statistics. Information will be used exclusively for statistical purposes and treated as confidential, with personal data processing aligned with Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR). Fieldwork will be supported by the Romanian Institute for Evaluation and Strategy, whose interviewers will visit sampled households and assist respondents in completing the National Bank of Romania’s questionnaire.
